Widowed in her early 40’s, she was still an attractive woman. Her husband had been 20 years her senior and his death left her numb with grief.

She went through the process and one day woke up thinking: “I need to change my life.”

Never having had any of her own, she had always liked children. She thought teaching might be for her. So she went to the nearest college to talk to someone and get some advice on how she might become a teacher.

She was in luck: The Principal’s ten o’clock meeting had just been cancelled, so he could see her – right away. He asked his secretary to bring them some coffee and closed the door.

An hour later, she came out.

I was never told how the words fell or what had happened but I do know that from being complete strangers, an hour’s worth of conversation later, he had proposed and she had accepted. They were soon wed and remained happily married until her death 28 years later.

The lesson? There is a million ways you can live your life. The next person you meet might just be the one who can offer you what you need.
