Apart from a few years where I was living abroad and one year in my youth where I got very drunk very early, all of my December 31sts of my entire life have been spent in the company of the Queen, Her Majesty Margrethe II of Denmark.

At 6 o’clock sharp, we gather round the TV with a small glass of bubbly, perhaps a few snacks and as she goes on, talking live to the nation from her castle ‘Amalienborg’, children are hushed and for the next minutes, all is quiet while the Queen speaks.  She is 72 years old now. Go on and take a bow for the fact that she does this nerve-wrecking thing LIVE every year.

Every year she is criticized for being too repetitive, too out of touch with the common man, too political or too a-political but I never pay any heed to any criticism of her.  To me, it is always an inspiring and sobering experience. She is my Queen and she speaks directly to me. I often get a little bit emotional and have to wipe away a tear or two.

Yesterday, December 31st 2012, she said:

”Today there is a tendency to draw a picture of the perfect life with marriage, children, an inspiring job, thrilling hobbies, youthful looks regardless of age. Who can live up to all of that? We all face adversity sooner or later. We will break our neck on whatever crisis will befall us, if only the perfect – and superficial – life is good enough.” (My translation.)

That sums up exactly my entire point with Cindafuckingrella: To talk about life as it is and not as a perfect glossy image.

In fact, I suspect I may just have a royal reader. Are you out there, Daisy? Well, if you are: Keep up the good work, modeling girl power everywhere.

God bless the Queen & Happy New Year everyone.

May 2013 be prosperous and not perfect at all. But awesome and filled with life – love- fun.

Cinda loves you!
